This “wish list” lasts all year!

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner.  It’s that time of the year that we see “wish lists” pop up.  At animal rescues / shelters there is no special time for a wish list…Rescues are in need of “goodies” all year round!

I always keep this in mind and I make it a point of making a run to the local SPCA as well as to the SPCA Monteregie at least twice a year. When I take the time to de-clutter..the question I always ask myself is whether or not I can re-use any products / items I have and pay it forward!

I always save my sheets and old blankets-I love to think that something so simple could add so much comfort.

But there are so many other things that shelters can use that we may not even think about.  We have things we don’t use anymore, we have extras/excess and we have items that may not have use to us ( or to our pets) any longer but things that could be so helpful/ useful to shelters /rescues.  I have to admit, that being the softie I am, I will even buy a bit extra once in awhile….

So, if you would like to be one of the “special” people to help with that wish list, keep these items in mind:

  • dog and cat food ( wet and dry)
  • carriers, crates & kennels
  • beds, linens, blankets & mats
  • leads, leashes, collars & harnesses
  • toys (durable and made for animals)
  • gift cards
  • bowls ( stainless steel is preferable)
  • towels
  • dog coats
  • cleaning supplies
  • treats (You could even make some)
  • laundry and dish detergent
  • mops brooms & dustpans
  • clumping litter
  • rags (you could make some)
  • garbage bags
  • spongies and scrubbies
  • litter pans
  • brushes
  • scratching posts
  • poop bags
  • water buckets
  • office supplies
  • heating pads / lamps
  • grooming tools
  • nursing bottles
  • cedar chips / hay
  • veggies
  • stuffed animals (no loose parts, not pellet or beanie filled)
  • storage bins
  • baggies
  • hand sanitizers
  • rain ponchos
  • cameras
  • peanut butter
  • bleach
  • detergent
  • Q-tips
  • Vaseline, glucosamine, flax seed, Udos Oil

And that doesn’t take the place of volunteering your time, fostering, giving love and attention, and /or giving monetary contributions.  There are so many ways that we can help without going much further than our back rooms, closets or cabinets that are sure to have lots of extras that we could afford to share!

So go through those storage spaces and help.  The animals will appreciate your generosity.  They can’t speak but their actions will say it all!
